Becky Dornon, alto 1

Becky Dornon
Voice part: Alto 1
Season you joined the Chorale: 2010-11
Birthplace (state or country): Japan
Education/Vocal Training: I'm an engineer, and I never had a voice lesson until I was 36.
Do you make your living as a musician? A little bit, but I keep my day job, too.
If so, where else do you gig/teach/conduct/sing/perform? Churches and funerals are the majority.
If not, what else do you do as a “day job”? IT@CST.edu
Where else do you sing NOW? Claremont United Methodist Church, and I just launched CeciliaChorale.org. Do come hear us! I also do a recital now and then to get my Brunhilde out.
Recent solo roles or guest appearances: Messiah
Recordings/TV/Film: “All Opera” and “10 Spirituals”
Highlights of your musical career: Semifinalist at Classical Singer Magazine International Vocal Competition and, of course, joining the LAMC.
Favorite choral work: There are so many choral treasures, and I'm always in love with whatever I'm working on at the time (the more fortissimos the better), but I guess I do have special feelings for Hymn to St Cecilia by Benjamin Britten and Adagio for Strings transcribed by Samuel Barber for eight-part choir, as a setting of the Agnus Dei ("Lamb of God").
A defining moment or favorite onstage experience: The first time I noticed that I was in front of people but that my knees weren't trembling anymore
What are you listening to these days?: NPR
Anything you’d like to add about yourself?: I love to ski and scuba, but I'm not ready to skydive...
