Carol Binion
Voice part: Alto
Season you joined the Chorale: 2007-2008
Birthplace: California
Education/Vocal Training: Lifelong choral singer (starting at age 7!); currently studying voice with Diana Zaslove.
Do you make your living as a musician? No
What else do you do as a "day job"? I am a puppeteer, a puppet builder, and a costume designer and builder. Former member of Basil Twist's company.
Where else do you sing NOW? Angeles Chorale
Recordings/TV/Film: Stabat Maters: Szymanowski and Poulenc (Robert Shaw/ Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, Telarc). Many tracks of "movie trailer music" with the Angeles Chorale.
Highlights of your musical career: Performing the Kodaly Missa Brevis in partnership with the José Limon Dance Company. Singing the traditional Robert Shaw Christmas Concert in Atlanta. Richard Einhorn's Voices of Light at Lincoln Center.
Favorite choral work: Currently, Fauré Requiem. It brings my emotions right to the surface.
A defining moment or favorite onstage experience: James Galway kissed my face when I was a kid, and I realized that the great ones are actually just regular people, too.
What are you listening to these days? I love blues and soul vocalists, and am currently wowed by Irma Thomas' many recordings.
Anything you'd like to add about yourself? Music sometimes makes me see colors.
