Tyler Azelton
Voice Part: Soprano
Season you joined the Chorale: 2005-2006 (Grant’s first season)
Birthplace: California
Education/Vocal Training: Both
Do you make your living as a musician? Yes! Woo-hoo!
If so, where else do you gig/teach/conduct/sing/perform? I taught last year at Calarts, I teach voice privately, and I freelance.
If not, what else do you do as a “day job”? I obsessively write music/songs 24-hours per day
Where else do you sing NOW? Various churches, with Deep 6 Holiday, Redwood Trio, and, in the near future, The Time-Space Continuum: a chamber/jazz group with strings and drums and everything!
Recent solo roles or guest appearances: My neo-soul/ R&B song “Falling for You” just got placed in the independent feature film: RotkÄppchen: The Blood of Red Riding Hood
Recordings/TV/Film: sang on Lady in the Water, Click, Race to Witch Mountain, Earth, 2010, and The Notorious Bettie Page trailer.
Highlights of your musical career: singing under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen, who sold me on music when I saw him conduct The Rite of Spring back in 1992.
Favorite choral work: Britten's Requiem
A defining moment or favorite onstage experience: The final 3 minutes of Beethoven's 9th Symphony at the Hollywood Bowl with Michael Tilson Thomas… no words to describe.
What are you listening to these days? Brian Wilson's Smile, The John Adams Earbox, Led Zepplin's American Graffiti, Imogen Heap's Ellipse, Radiohead's Hail to the Thief, and all the Lennie Tristano recordings I can get my hands on.
Anything you’d like to add about yourself? Brian Wilson's Smile, The John Adams Earbox, Led Zepplin's American Graffiti, Imogen Heap's Ellipse, Radiohead's Hail to the Thief, and all the Lennie Tristano recordings I can get my hands on.
Anything you’d like to add about yourself? It’s a real honor to sing for you. Thank you for supporting great, live music. You’re the best!
