Letter from Music Director Grant Gershon
I am tremendously excited about this season at Walt Disney Concert Hall and invite you to buy tickets today! When you visit this website, you’ll find 8 enticing concerts along with some extraordinary holiday performances.
Here are some personal favorites that I’m particularly looking forward to:
- A world premiere by the remarkable Cambodian-born composer Chinary Ung for chorus and dancers, paired with Lou Harrison’s astonishing La Koro Sutro performed with gamelan ensemble.
- Mendelssohn’s masterpiece Elijah featuring internationally acclaimed bass-baritone Eric Owens.
- A Disney Hall Pipe Organ Extravaganza with new works by Andrea Clearfield (featuring the Debussy Trio), Steven Sametz, and Nico Muhly, one of New York’s hottest young talents.
- Messiaen’s ravishingly beautiful Trois petites liturgies, one of the most important works of the 20th century with its rhapsodic melodic writing and rhythmic complexities and will give us the rare opportunity to hear the ondes martenot, one of the world’s earliest electronic instruments.
- And Roberto Sierra’s remarkably joyous and colorful Missa Latina, reflecting the composer’s deep affection for the music of his native Puerto Rico.
I promise you an incredible musical journey this season. Please don’t miss a moment of this great music! Join our family today! It’s easy to do, it’s all here and it’s all for you.
