Your Invitation from Music Director Grant Gershon
... gorgeous music superbly performed. Under Gershon, the Master Chorale seems to be able to master anything.” Mark Swed, LA Times
Thoughts from Grant:
Wow, my 10th season with the Los Angeles Master Chorale! How time flies! As I look back over a decade of music-making, it is staggering to realize what we’ve accomplished together. It’s been an extraordinary time—to be precise, 3 days, 19 hours and 44 minutes of music laid end to end. And that’s just concerts at the Music Center! Doesn’t include all our appearances with the L.A. Philharmonic, at the Hollywood Bowl, in New York or elsewhere.
My idea for the upcoming season was to create a playlist that celebrates my favorite high points of the last 10 years and represents my vision of choral music. Being a native Angeleno with an early appreciation of the Master Chorale, I am thrilled by how far the journey has taken us together and how receptive you -- our audience – are to new sounds, new music, and new interpretations of the standard repertoire. This ensemble continues to blossom as we take on new challenges and forge new paths for the choral art.
Treats in store this year include Rachmaninoff’s a cappella masterpiece All-Night Vigil, Mozart’s re-orchestration of Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s dazzling The Creation, plus new sounds with Mark Grey’s important world premiere; intimate a cappella choral traditions from France and England; and a season finale blow-out with two conductors on stage, jazz orchestra, soloists, tap dancer, and the entire Chorale performing the best of Duke Ellington Sacred Concerts.
Please join us for an extraordinary season of music!
