LA Master Chorale Chamber Singers - In-school Performances
In-school performances by the Chamber Singers, an eight-voice ensemble from the Los Angeles Master Chorale, have been the core education program of the Master Chorale since 1980. Using a school assembly format, the Chamber Singers present 45-minute informative performances designed for elementary, middle school or high school audiences. During the completely a cappella performance, the singers guide audiences through a musical journey of song. Schools can choose from "Americana Music," which highlights several genres of American music including spirituals, jazz, and folksongs such as Shenandoah; "Our World of Music," with songs from such places as Argentina, Malaysia, Kenya, and Brazil - with many of the songs sung in the native language; or a combination of these two shows, "The Musical Journey." Along the way, students will learn the history of these songs and interact with the singers as they are introduced to what makes a vocal chamber ensemble. Students even become part of the performance when the Chamber Singers lead them in a sing-along. In advance of the in-school performance, teachers are provided a study guide with suggested pre- and post-performance activities.
Choral Masterclasses
In addition to the in-school performances, the Chamber Singers can also develop a masterclass for a group of students or a school choir, led by the Master Chorale Assistant Conductor and members of the Chamber Singers. The Education Programs Manager of the Master Chorale will work directly with school administration and teachers to create a session that best benefits the needs of the group or school choir.
