Featuring Manoochehr Sadeghi, Pejman Hadadi and organist David Goode
Introducing L.A. is the World, a new port of entry for the rich traditions of the Southland’s master musician immigrants. We'll launch this exciting new multi-season project with Sang (Farsi for “stone”), crafted by composer Eve Beglarian in partnership with acclaimed Iranian-American musicians Manoochehr Sadeghi and Pejman Hadadi, and the Chorale.
James MacMillan is the preeminent Scottish composer of his generation. “…a composer so confident of his own musical language that he makes it instantly communicative to his listeners,” says The Guardian. Expect the unexpected in Magnificat and Nunc dimittis, his two canticles from St. Luke’s account of Christ’s nativity.
Coming back from the mists of time, yet very modern, a mystic’s music speaks to the soul. Arvo Pärt’s triple chorus Te Deum accompanied by strings and the haunting sound of an Aeolian wind-harp is a natural for Disney Concert Hall. With a mixed chorus on stage and separate men’s and women’s choruses positioned up high, you’re surrounded by serene, meditative voices rising to big, blossoming climaxes that envelop you and fill the space with ethereal beauty. The perfect season-ending balm for the soul.
Project funding: L.A. is the World is funded in part by grants from The James Irvine Foundation and the Creative Capital Multi-Arts Production Fund.
