Los Angeles Master Chorale

In-school performances

In-school performances by the Chamber Singers, an eight-voice ensemble, has been the core education program of the Master Chorale since 1980. Using a school assembly format, the Chamber Singers present 45-minute informative performances of international folk and classical music. Songs range from medieval to modern and reflect California's diverse cultures. These professional singers appropriately tailor interactive, accessible programs for grades K-12. Students learn the basics of choral music structure and performance while enhancing their listening skills. Through practicing active listening, students may begin to make connections between popular music and the music performed by the Chamber Singers. In advance of the in-school performance, teachers are provided a study guide with suggested pre- and post-performance activities.

Choral Masterclasses by the Chamber Singers or members of the Chorale assist student singers in vocal development, interpretation, and performance techniques. Designed in collaboration with music teachers, these customized workshops provide young singers an opportunity to meet and work with professional singers. In addition, new perspectives are brought to both the choirs and choir directors.
