Itaipu re-issued by Orange Mountain Music

Orange Mountain Music re-issued the Los Angeles Master Chorale's recording of Philip Glass' large-scale choral oratorio Itaipu -- inspired by the giant hydro-electric dam in Brazil – conducted by Grant Gershon. The second work on the CD is Philip Glass' only a cappella choral work, Three Songs, set to poems by three prominent writers: Leonard Cohen, Octavio Paz, and Raymond Levesque. Three Songs is performed by the Crouch End Festival Chorus conducted by David Temple and is a re-issue of the Silva Screen recording of the work from 2000. The CD is available through Amazon.com.

Peter Greenfield of American Record Guide describes these works as “heartfelt, radiant, absolutely gorgeous music… delivered con amorte. This is all music straight from the heart. The choir and orchestra sound like they were deputized by the angels to bring this music to earth… This will be on my year's Best List for sure come January. I bet it makes yours too!”

“Lauridsen’s music as sung by the Chorale demonstrates that it is possible for important contemporary music to speak directly to the human heart. Lux Aeterna is a rich, complex, intensely moving piece that people will be listening to for a long time to come.” — Jim Svejda

“Even if you are not religious, it is very easy to become so listening to this album.  It certainly reaches into one’s soul. This CD raises the bar for all choral repertoires.  This is truly inspired and inspirational singing of a Gregorian mass, insidiously affecting.” — Beverly Hills Outlook
