Four joyous seasonal classics will make your holidays bright. The centerpiece, Hugo Distler’s beautiful Christmas Story based on the carol “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming” evokes snowy landscapes and quiet calm of a traditional Christmas in Germany. Poulenc’s Four Christmas Motets, light in texture and exuding joyful serenity, were some of Poulenc’s own favorites. A Festival of Carols by Frank Ferko is evocative and colorful, ending with a grand flourish of Hallelujahs. A perfect finale to this holiday offering is another signature work, O Magnum Mysterium by Lauridsen — written for the Chorale and commissioned by long-time Board member, Marshall Rutter, in honor of his wife, Terry — now one of the most popular choral works on the planet. Rejoice!
