A MINUTE WITH THE MAESTRO!
Hear the Music Director tell you about this concert!
Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and influenced by Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, the Pulitzer Prize-winning the little match girl passion has become one of the most heralded choral compositions of the new century since its riveting premiere at Carnegie Hall. Jazz master James Newton’s kaleidoscopic, heartfelt Mass, originally premiered in Italy as a vocal quartet, is both wild and reflective, dense and spare and is performed with 7 instruments, 4 soloists and the Chorale. Two Bach motets for double choir — virtuosic yet intimate — complement and illuminate the other pieces on the program. This will be the most intimate concert of the season, and you will want to experience it.
With this work — one of the most moving and original scores of recent years — Lang has solidified his standing as an American master.” The New Yorker
