In the 2006|07 season, his sixth season on the podium, Grant Gershon launched Homage to Haydn, an ambitious project which would showcase for the Chorale audience all six of Haydn's famous final Masses. The project culminated in 2009 coinciding with the 200th anniversary of the composer's death, a year designated Haydn Year by Austrians and celebrated worldwide. That this sexagenarian would create these masterpieces during the last decade of his life represents a crowning achievement and significant body of work in the choral repertory. Grant felt simply compelled to crown this season with one of Haydn’s greatest choral masterpieces, The Creation, in this important time of reflection and celebration of his tenure as Music Director.
